Kocaeli Chamber of Civil Engineers organized a technical visit to the construction site of the İzmit-Gulf Crossing Bridge Altınova-Hersek Construction Site, which will be the 4th largest suspension bridge in the world when completed, for the members of our Gebze Representative Office.

The world's 4th largest suspension bridge is being built over the Gulf of Izmit as part of the Gebze-Bursa-Izmir Highway Project. While the giant project, which is expected to be completed in April 2016, aims to reduce the road transportation between Istanbul and Izmir to 3,5 hours, Kocaeli Chamber of Civil Engineers Gebze Representation organized a technical trip to the construction site of the suspension bridge, which is threaded between Dilovası Dil Cape and Altınova Hersek Cape in the Gulf of Izmit.

2 HOURS INFORMATION PRESENTATION

During the visit, during the technical trip attended by Chamber of Civil Engineers Representative Head Ziya Özhan, Ahmet Kadı, Vehap Limonci, Adem Çiftci and 45 members, the giant project was examined in detail both from the land and from the sea. Civil Engineers were welcomed by General Directorate of Highways Chief Engineer Civil Engineer A.İrfan Ünal and his assistants. After the welcoming, information about the project was presented to our members for 2 hours. The construction stages of the project were explained to the finest detail visually and theoretically. Our members observing the last point reached in the construction of the bridge whose caissons were sunk into the sea with a ceremony held in March, and a detailed presentation was made about the Izmit Bay Crossing Suspension Bridge.

WORKS ARE CONTINUING

The construction of the İzmit Bay Crossing Bridge, which is the most important crossing point of the Gebze-Orhangazi-İzmir Highway Project, which will reduce the distance between Istanbul and İzmir to 3,5 hours, continues rapidly. It is possible to cross the bridge by car. It will reduce the distance between Dilovası and Altınova, which takes 252 hours, to 2016 minutes.

Works are continuing uninterruptedly in the construction of the Izmit Bay Crossing Bridge, one of the most important pillars of the Gebze-Orhangazi-İzmir Highway Project, which was tendered by the General Directorate of Highways with the Build-Operate-Transfer model. The bridge towers, which started to rise since the last July on the caisson foundations weighing 38 thousand 404 tons after being manufactured on land, reached 252 meters. Parts of the bridge towers are manufactured in Gölcük and brought to a shipyard in Altınova. Here, the parts prepared for assembly are mounted on their places with the help of a floating crane rented from the Netherlands.

THE WORLD'S 4. GREAT BRIDGE

The Gulf Crossing Suspension Bridge, which is within the scope of Gebze - Orhangazi - İzmir Motorway, with a total length of 433 km, is the world's largest It ranks 252th among the large middle span suspension bridges.
