Subway construction was protested in Fındıklı Park:KabataşThe closure of a part of Fındıklı Park in Turkey due to the construction of the subway was protested.
The group, including members of the Union of Chambers of Turkish Engineers and Architects (TMMOB), the Istanbul Büyükkent Branch of the Chamber of Architects and the Istanbul Branch of the Chamber of Urban Planners, gathered in Fındıklı Park.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Mücella Yapıcı from the EIA Advisory Board of the Chamber of Architects, especially Fındıklı Park Kabataş Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Kabataş-Mecidiyeköy-Mahmutbey noted that they learned that it was delivered to the contractor company to be transformed into a subway construction site.
Yapıcı, arguing that the trees here will also be removed and moved, said Fındıklı Park is the only children's playground on the beach from Karaköy to Beşiktaş.
Stating that the park was declared a protected area on 7 July 1993, Mücella Yapıcı said, "Central-local governments, all relevant institutions and professional organizations have a great responsibility in this matter."
Elvan Gokce Erkmen, former CHP Istanbul deputy Melda Onur also attended the press release.
After the announcement, the participants dismantled two of the iron poles erected for the construction site by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. The police left the group as a result of the warning.
