İzmir Metro Saved One Million Liras in Electricity: İzmir Metro A.Ş. has managed to save approximately 1 million TL in the electricity used in train operation with the project it developed. The innovative project reduces the energy consumption of train sets per kilometer by 11.

İzmir Metro A.Ş. has begun to take the fruits of its works in a short time by signing an important energy saving project. With the innovative project it developed, the Izmir subway, which provides savings in the electrical energy used in train operation (Cer energy), reduced the energy consumed per kilometer train sets by 11. saving projects that approximately 1 million pounds, Turkey Quality Association (KalDer) Izmir Branch by 'success' was awarded the prize. The project, which draws attention with its environmentalist dimension in addition to savings, sets an example for the metro systems in other cities.

İzmir Metro has worked with a team of 13 people within its structure to develop projects to reduce energy consumption. Within the scope of the project, which was implemented in the whole system after the 4 monthly pre-application period, the points where the trains consume maximum (acceleration acceleration) and minimum (idle) driving power, and the point where regenerative energy is produced by reverse current with braking acceleration. The signage was placed to inform the drivers of the 70 spot determined by the expert team as a result of the precise calculations. Then, the regenerative energy produced by the trains at the braking points with the reorganized expedition plans was ensured to pass from the same energy zone simultaneously for the use of the train coming from the opposite direction and accelerating. In addition to the trainings given to the drivers, energy efficiency was ensured by the train movements which were monitored instantly from the traffic control center.

Stating that they are constantly developing projects to use the public resources entrusted to them while trying to provide the best service to the city, İzmir Metro A.Ş. General Manager Sönmez Alev said, “The projects we have developed are more than a purpose for us, but are a means to provide better service and affordable transportation to the people of İzmir. Electricity is one of the most important expense items of Izmir metro. The cost of electricity given to all rail systems is 35 to 50 percent more than the electricity cost given to the industry. Since we couldn't change our purchase price no matter how hard we tried, we had to save. With teamwork, we set out to use less energy in our trains and saved 11 percent. The financial value of the project is approximately 1 million TL. Besides the monetary importance of the project, it has environmentalist importance. While saving energy, we also reduce carbon dioxide emissions. Similar projects are developed in metro systems through universities; However, we did this with the team we established within our own structure. The universities that came to us to make projects congratulate them when they see the efficiency of our project ”.
