Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) public information meeting held for the 'Kınalı-Tekirdağ-Çanakkale-Savaştape 1st and 2nd Section Highway Project' to be connected to the Bosphorus Bridge planned to be built between Gallipoli and Lapseki in Çanakkale Strait, due to a group's protest failed.
Today, an EIA meeting was held at the Gallipoli Atatürk Cultural Center for the Bosphorus Bridge to be built. However, allegedly, the meeting was not made public. 20 members of the Labor and Democracy Forces Environment Platform, who heard the EIA meeting attended by only one real estate agent, came to the hall where the meeting will be held from Çanakkale. At the meeting, which was claimed to be made unaware after the members entered the hall, the atmosphere was strained. The EIA Meeting, chaired by Murat Selçuk, Deputy Provincial Director of Environment and Urbanization, attended by officials from the General Directorate of Highways, 1st Regional Directorate of Highways, the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, could not be held due to the intense protest of the group of 20 people. The members of the Labor and Democracy Forces Environment Platform, who protested the meeting where the police took intensive security measures, also supported HDP Çanakkale 3rd parliamentary candidate Ergün Fidan. Fidan said in a statement, “They are trying to bring this information meeting to the end. Where are the people, where, where are the competent authorities? Nobody. How is this public information meeting? We shouldn't just look at it as a bridge. While making this bridge, it is necessary to reveal the damages it will cause. With the bridge, industrialization will come and agriculture will end. Finishing agriculture means working every human being like a slave. ”
Upon the protests, the minutes stating that the meeting could not be held were signed by the Deputy Provincial Director of Environment and Urbanization and other officials. Tutanağa said, “By the General Directorate of Highways, in Silivri District of Istanbul, Marmara Ereğlisi, Çorlu, Süleymanpaşa and Malkara districts of Tekirdağ, Lapseki, Gelibolu, Çan, Yenice districts of Çanakkale, Balya and central districts of Kınalı- In line with Tekirdağ-Çanakkale-Savaştepe 1st and 2nd Sector Highway Project, in accordance with the 9th article of the EIA regulation, at 28 on May 2015, 10.00, in order to ensure public participation in the EIA process, to inform about the project, to receive opinions and suggestions. Environment and Urbanization Deputy Director Murat Selçuk was present at the Gallipoli Ataturk Cultural Center. It was seen that the announcement was made in national and local newspapers in accordance with the regulation regarding the public participation meeting. They stated that a group of 20 people protested intensely in the meeting room and did not want to receive information. This report has been prepared by us ”.
