As can be understood behind this statement, we need a 3rd bridge and all crossings. Giving information about the maintenance works for the Bosphorus bridges, Cahit Turhan, General Manager of Highways, stated that the Bosphorus Bridge, whose rope renewal works are continuing, will also be asphalt work in summer and said, “We aim to complete the asphalt replacement in 2 months. When schools go on vacation, we start working. If possible, we can finish before the Ramadan Festival, ”he said.
CRACK REPAIR CONTINUES
Noting that they have completed the Bosphorus Bridge crack repairs with the painting of the main deck on the Fatih Sultan Mehmet (FSM) Bridge, Turhan explained that 471 cracks have been repaired and painted in 175 thousand square meters area so far. Turhan stated that the work continues for 106 cracks. Stating that the necessary manufactures were made for the replacement of the suspension ropes, Turhan said, “We performed the suspension rope tensile strength test in Italy. Installation of 240 suspension ropes will begin. We foresee the assembly period as 1 month ”. Turhan announced that in parallel with the change of the suspension ropes, a dehumidification system will be installed on the main rope in both bridges.
