Following the death of the artist, the governor's office must give permission to open a criminal case against the General Directorate of Highways. The Governorate had not given permission to investigate.
The Özütemiz family had applied to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR). The family is also awaiting a decision from the ECHR.
