Istanbul traffic to ease snowfall

Istanbul traffic was relieved by snow: During the snowfall last week, Istanbul residents used public transportation instead of their cars.
According to the statement made by Istanbul Electric Tram and Tunnel Operations (IETT), the bus trip rate, which could not be made due to traffic density due to the use of public transportation by Istanbul residents on January 7-11, when there was snowfall, dropped from 1 percent to 0,5 percent.
Despite the increase in the number of passengers, the regularity of bus rides increased from 95 percent to 96,2 percent, and punctuality increased from 88 percent to 90 percent.
The measures taken by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and the road-building activities resulted in a significant decrease in traffic density and standby rates.
IETT General Manager Mümin Kahveci, whose opinions on the subject were given in the statement, emphasized the importance of using public transportation and said, “Not only when there is snow or rain, but when we adopt public transportation as a life culture, there will be no such thing as traffic in Istanbul. We experienced the clearest example of this last week. We will continue to work to popularize public transportation and to provide the necessary comfort and service in our buses ”.
