The landslide took place on the Silifke-Mut Highway, which is frequently used by passenger buses to very large cities such as Karaman, Konya, and the capital Ankara. With the landslide, the rock, which is estimated to be approximately 100 tons, broke off the mountain and decreased to the middle of the road. Upon the notice, the gendarmerie and traffic teams who came to the place where the rock fell, took safety precautions. Then, highways teams started an action to remove the rock that blocked the traffic. The road was opened to traffic when the teams lifted the giant rock at the end of approximately 2 hours of work.

Mustafa Göktaş, one of the drivers waiting on the road, stated that he frequently used the Silifke-Mut Highway, that the road widening work was carried out in the section before that and they were concerned that the rock might break off the mountain. Göktaş scared the giant rock that broke off the mountain and fell in the middle of the road. Because especially passenger buses use this place constantly. He explained that the absence of any vehicle when the rock fell, prevented a great disaster.
