With the project, the city's shopping streets are restructured and modernized, and this tunnel aims to make the urban public transport system more useful. Passengers who depart from the train will be able to ride trams from the platforms at the bottom of the railway station.

The floors of the tunnel and the station will be connected by escalators and elevators. It is stated that the Augsburg City Affairs Administration will make an investment of 15 million Euros at the train station while the underground tunnel is being built. It was stated by the state that the restructuring work at the train station will cost 114 million Euros and the majority of the budget. The work at the station is expected to be completed by 2019.
