Minister Elvan said in a statement that all the work on the Ankara-Istanbul YHT line, which citizens are excitedly waiting for to open, was carried out with great care. In this context, Minister Elvan stated that all test drives were successfully completed on the line and said, "There is no obstacle to the opening of the Ankara-Istanbul YHT line, we plan to open the line as the 11th of this month." It was stated that according to the schedule of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the opening date may deviate 1-2 days.

The 533-kilometer Ankara-Eskişehir section of the 245-kilometer Ankara-Istanbul YHT line was put into service in 2009. After the line is fully operational, the travel time between the two cities will be reduced to 3,5 hours. On the Ankara-Istanbul YHT line, there will be 9 stops in total, Polatlı, Eskişehir, Bozüyük, Bilecik, Pamukova, Sapanca, İzmit, Gebze and Pendik. In the first stage, the line where the last stop will be Pendik will be extended to Söğütlüçeşme station. Ankara-Istanbul YHT line will be connected to Marmaray in 2015 and HalkalıIt will reach until. There will be 16 daily trips. After connecting to Marmaray, there will be a trip every 15 minutes or half an hour. With the opening of the Ankara and Istanbul YHT line, the share of railways in passenger transportation from 10 percent is expected to increase to 78 percent. It is aimed to serve approximately 50 thousand passengers per day and 17 million passengers per year on the Ankara-Istanbul YHT line.
