Kadir Topbaş did not join the case of metrobus corruption again

Kadir Topbaş has not participated in the metrobus corruption case again: The trial continued for up to 14 years in prison on charges of abuse of the duty in the acquisition of 500 buses called "metrobus corruption", among which 3 defendants, including Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Kadir Topbaş. In the case where Kadir Topbaş did not participate and testify, the intervention request of CHP Assembly Member Hakkı Sağlam was also rejected.

The fourth trial of the lawsuit opened with the claim that 14 detained defendants, including Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Kadir Topbaş, “misused the task in purchasing 500 buses” was held. Topbaş, who did not attend the hearing, stated in his excuse petition to the court that he was a speaker at the United Nations (UN) Economic and Social Council Meeting, therefore he was in New York.

While Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Kadir Topbaş did not attend the hearing held at the Istanbul 27th Criminal Court of Peace in Istanbul Palace of Justice, 13 other detained defendants were present. In the hearing attended by Kadir Topbaş's lawyer Fahri Biçer, CHP's Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Council Member Hakkı Sağlam was present as an “communist”.

Judge Ahmet Torun, the case file has been deposited with the delegation and the report was not arranged and sent to the court, he said.

The client's Hakkı Sağlam also stated that his complaint continues and that he will make a statement after the expert report arrives. Other defendants who spoke at the hearing stated that they did not accept Hakkı Sağlam's request to participate in the case, and that Sağlam was not a party to the case.

“Let my client be a graduate”

Kadir Topbaş's lawyer Fahri Biçer said, “I request my client to be excused,” demanding a decision to be denied by Hakkı Sağlam's request to participate in the case.

In her excuse petition to the court, Kadir Topbaş stated that she was in New York as a speaker at the Economic and Social Council Meeting of the United Nations (UN), representing local governments around the world, as the World President of the Union of World Municipalities (UCLG).

Sağlam's request to join the case was denied

Judging the demands at the end of the hearing, the judge denied Hakkı Sağlam's request to participate in the case, since he was not directly damaged by the crime. Judge Ahmet Torun decided to accept the excuse of Kadir Topbaş and postponed the hearing until October 2.

The defendants are imprisoned up to 3 years

The indictment prepared by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office included 14 defendants, including Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Kadir Topbaş, while CHP leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu and 4 others were in the capacity of “the client”. In the indictment, which was claimed to have been carried out irregularly and illegally, 2005 bus purchasing tenders opened by the IETT General Directorate in 500 are demanded from 1 to 3 years of imprisonment for all suspects separately.

While the statements of 13 defendants on trial were taken, the statement of Kadir Topbaş could not be taken because he did not attend the hearing. It was learned that Topbaş testified to the prosecutor during the investigation phase. Kadir Topbaş did not attend the previous hearing, citing labor intensity.
