It is stated that as a result of the YHT being put into service, the customer will prefer the 6-hour fast train instead of a 3-hour bus ride. The low price difference between YHT and bus and the discounted application of some trips on YHT also make the railway advantageous.

The journey time between Istanbul and Ankara will take 3,5 hours in the first place. With the completion of the Geyve-Sapanca section, this period will be reduced to 3 hours. The 533-kilometer Ankara-Eskişehir section of the 245-kilometer Ankara-Istanbul YHT line was put into service in 2009. The opening of the 266-kilometer section between Eskişehir and Istanbul, whose construction has been completed, will also be made at the end of the month. YHT will be able to reach speeds of up to 275 kilometers per hour on this line.

On the Ankara-Istanbul YHT line, there will be 9 stops in total, Polatlı, Eskişehir, Bozüyük, Bilecik, Pamukova, Sapanca, İzmit, Gebze and Pendik. Later, the line will be extended to Istanbul Söğütlüçeşme station and there will be 16 daily mutual trips. With the commissioning of the line, the share of railways in passenger transportation from 10 percent is expected to increase to 78 percent.
