Kyrgyzstan wants China to participate in railway project

Kyrgyzstan wants China to join the railway project: Kyrgyzstan wants China to be included in the railway project planned between Central Asian countries and Russia

Kyrgyzstan made a proposal for China to join Russia-Kazakhstan-Kyrgyzstan-Tajikistan-Afghanistan-Iran railway project. The statement was made by Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Erlan Abdyldaev at the Shanghai summit.

Analysts stressed that the proposal was a message to the Kremlin court, and that the Bishkek administration would try to achieve its expectation that China would do so if it does not support Russia's railway project.

The proposal for the construction of a railway linking Russia with the countries of the Basra Gulf was first brought to the agenda of the Organization for Collective Security and Cooperation (CGSC) held in May of 2013. The proposal made by the President of Kyrgyzstan Almazbek Atambayev was supported by Imam Ali Rahman, President of Tajikistan. However, the project was only brought to the agenda during the meeting between Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan delegates in the last year. This led to comments that it was impossible for him to take place.
