Steps Taken for Railway Project in West Africa: Work has started for the line between Cotonou, the capital of Benin, and Niamey, the capital of Niger.
Within the framework of the project of connecting 5 countries in West Africa, efforts have started to expand the railway line connecting Benin and Niger.
In Niamey, the capital of Niger, the foundation of the new rail construction was laid between the Parakou city of Benin and Niamey by the presidents of Niger, Benin and Togo. Yesterday, the heads of state started work on the line's Cotonou-Parakou section to connect Cotonou and Niamey, the capital of Benin, which is 1050 kilometers long.
Niger President Isufu Mahamadu said he was confident that this historic event, connecting the two countries, made all Nigerians happy.
The railway construction project was handed over to the French company Bollore in November 2013. The Benin-Niger project is planned to be completed in 24 months.
When the entire project is completed, 5 Cities (Abidjan (Ivory), Niamey (Niger), Uagadugu (Burkina Faso), Cotonou (Benin) and Lome (Togo)) will be linked in West Africa.
