Works for the Bosphorus Highway Tube Crossing are starting: The tunnel excavation works under the Bosphorus of the Eurasia Tunnel Project (Istanbul Bosphorus Highway Tube Crossing) will begin with a ceremony attended by Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Minister of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications, Lütfi Elvan.
Work under the seabed will be carried out with the Tunnel Boring Machine, which is 120 meters in length and 3 tons in weight, and designed specifically for the project. Eurasia Tunnel design, construction and operation of Yapı Merkezi from Turkey and South Korea's SK E & C company founded by Eurasia Tunnel Construction Business and Investment Co. (ATAŞ). The Eurasia Tunnel is aimed to reduce the travel time between Göztepe and Kazlıçeşme to 400 minutes. Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan will start the excavations under the sea floor by pressing the button of the tunnel boring machine designed for the project.
The Bosphorus Highway Crossing Project will connect the Asian and European sides with a road tunnel that passes under the sea floor. The project, which will serve on Kazlıçeşme-Göztepe line, where vehicle traffic is intense in Istanbul, covers a total of 14,6 kilometers of routes. While the two-storey tunnel will be constructed under the sea floor, 5,4 km of the project will be created, while road expansion and improvement will be carried out on a total of 9,2 km on the European and Asian sides. It is aimed to decrease the travel time from 100 minutes to 15 minutes in places where there is heavy traffic in Istanbul.
In the written statement, it was stated that an international loan of 1.3 million dollars was provided for the investment to the project, which will be realized with a financing of approximately 960 billion dollars with the build-operate-transfer model, and that the equity of 285 million dollars was provided by Yapı Merkezi and SK E&C.
The tunneling machine, which started to work on the Anatolian side, is progressing by digging the soil under the 25 meter of the sea floor and forming the inner walls. The daily feed rate will be the average 8-10 meter.
