The tunnel, which is scheduled to open at the end of 2013, will shorten an hour between Zurich and Milan to two hours at 2016.
The tunnel, which was tested yesterday, consists of two tube passages, each with a length of 57 kilometers. In the construction of the tunnel with a total cost of 9.5 billion euros, with the Renaissance, Alpiq In Tec (Power and Cable Systems), Alcatel-Lucent Schweiz / Thales Rss (Telecommunication and Security Systems) and Balfour Beatty Rail are also employed. The tunnel is designed according to 250 speed per hour. Two thousand 500 people work in the construction of the tunnel. Tunnel is aimed at protecting nature and ensuring road safety in the Alps. 1940 was approved by the Swiss people in a series of referendums held years ago for the construction of the tunnel that emerged as an idea in the 20s. The tunnel also aims to remove heavy goods from the roads and protect the untouched Alpine landscape of Switzerland.
