Increasing the Efficiency of Metrobus and Public Transportation Project by IETT and TÜBİTAK

Project for Increasing the Efficiency of Metrobus and Public Transportation from IETT and TÜBİTAK: A protocol was signed between IETT and TÜBİTAK to increase the efficiency of Metrobus and public transportation. Prof. TÜBİTAK President attending the protocol signing ceremony. Dr. Yücel Altunbaşak stated that Istanbul is a megacity and said, “Like all metropolises and megacities, Istanbul has a traffic problem naturally. Here we want to look at this traffic problem from a scientific point of view, and we want to reduce the traffic problem and contribute to the quality of life of the people of Istanbul. For this purpose, we are starting a project between IETT and TÜBİTAK. ”

PROJECT TWO STAGE

Altunbasak noted that the project in question has two phases, said:

“In the first stage, increasing the metrobus capacity; We will try to increase the human capacity that metrobuses can carry in one hour by taking parameters such as the speed of the metrobus, the distance between the stops, the number of people waiting at the stops, etc. In its second phase, we will try to implement a flexible public transport model for Istanbul. Istanbul is a very dynamic city, its education and job opportunities are changing rapidly as it is much better than other cities. Passenger needs are changing from year to year. Therefore, we need a more dynamic, flexible transportation model. We will try to look at them in the second phase of the project. ”

Professor Yücel Altunbaşak stated that a two-year study will be carried out for the project and stated that the study will be carried out by 5 people from TÜBİTAK and IETT.

WE TARGET A FLEXIBLE COLLECTION TRANSPORTATION MODEL

İETT General Manager Hayri Baraçlı stated that their work is not only related to metrobus but also all public transportation.

“Public-bus optimization, public-bus improvements, as well as efforts to optimize them according to the number of passengers. In order to make this quality and comfortable work sustainable, we have also reduced our average fleet age to 2013 by buying one thousand 705 new and suitable buses for disabled people. In addition, we will take the data as a whole regarding the waiting times and travel times at the stops, process them and turn them into information and accordingly, we will try to improve the system continuously. We aim for a flexible public transportation model in our study with TÜBİTAK. The most important factor among these is planning public transportation according to working hours. ”

6 WILL BE HELD IN THE AY

Answering questions from the press, Baraçlı replied to the question whether the 2 related to the metrobuses would make any arrangements before the year:

“We are always actively working on this line. We are making arrangements about this. It is about both the stops and the transportation system. But of course, in our study with TÜBİTAK, it will add a different dimension to us. It will be an academic study we do to see what we cannot see. Of course, we never wait 2 years for it to end. The first one will already be a trial study in 6 months. As a result of the trial, we will make this project feasible. But we should not forget that; We already have a specific team, we are working on all lines with more than 30 engineer friends. That's why we have studies on capacity increase of vehicles. ”

WE WORK AT IETT AND SO HAPPY

Baraçlı, “Is there a transition to the Defense Industry Consultancy, there are claims about that?” He said, "We are working at IETT and that is why we are very happy."

As for the occupation of bus stops, Baraçlı said:

“We are constantly making warnings about stops and parking. But we will start our work on electronic control system (EDS) at the main stops. We will also have practices for wrong parking or wrong approach to these stops. In the upcoming period, we teach them how to approach the stops with the trainings we provide to our target drivers. However, as a result of incorrect parking at the stops, this does not reach the desired target. But now we will go to this application with this EDS with certain main stops then maybe it will have some more regulation. ”

“Will there be new buses on the new metrobus line as a result of your work with TÜBİTAK? Or will new stops appear? ” Baraçlı said, “If necessary, we will apply whatever results are in the works to increase the capacity of the line. But in the first place, it can be the result of a study on vehicles. We will do our applications according to the results of this already in the first 6 months in the first place ”.

Baraçlı said, “Will you turn the Metrobus line into a trolleybus line in the future? Did you say something about that at Yıldız Technical University? ” He reminded him, “We have a study on whether this is electrical or not. It is an R&D project at our own stage. There is nothing clear yet. ”
