The situation was dealt with when the number of people who came and went in Istanbul increased. It was decided to build a third airport in the north of Istanbul. In addition to the third airport, which will be one of the largest airports in the world, it has been decided to build a second runway in Sabiha Gökçen on the Anatolian side. Thus, the passenger capacity will be increased.
The General Directorate of State Airports Authority (DHMİ) has started infrastructure and superstructure tender works for the construction of the second runway in order to make it an international quality to Sabiha Gökçen Airport, which has a single runway.
Accordingly, two separate tenders will be held for the second runway at Sabiha Gökçen Airport: infrastructure and superstructure and tower construction. Infrastructure tender is foreseen for the construction of the runway, while the superstructure tender is foreseen for the technical block and new tower construction.
The new runway to be built parallel to the current 3 one-thousand-meter runway will be 3 bin 500 meters long and 45 meters wide. The width of the runway will reach 60 meters with banquets.
The EIA Report for the new runway and tower construction is expected to be completed by the end of November, while the infrastructure tender is expected in December.
Within the scope of this project, the expropriation fee will be paid by DHMI General Directorate, a new replacement will be made at Sabiha Gökçen Airport instead of the control tower currently used. It is noted that the new tower will be one of the tallest towers in the world.
