Balçova cable car line closed for 4 years
This week's guest of the Aegean Council was Balçova Mayor Mehmet Ali Çalkaya. Speaking about why the cable car has been closed for 4 years, Mayor Çalkaya explained the EXPO process, the 'Religions Garden' planned and the status of the small tradesmen due to the shopping malls. Speaking about the 4-year-old Teleferik, which is one of the distinguished places of Izmir and Balçova, President Çalkaya made a statement about his closedness: “When I was president, Ahmet Piriştina wanted to transfer this Teleferik to me. I said that if I buy this place, my budget is not enough and I left it to Büyükşehir and it remained within Büyükşehir. As a result of the research conducted a few years ago, 30 years of metal was now tired here. These need to be renewed. Metropolitan studies started with tender methods, 3 tenders were made and all of them were canceled. In the 4th tender, the company that won this tender submitted the JCC to the court. İş was not a problem for Balçova or Metropolitan. The upper court found the 1st tender correct. Four years later the first tender turned out to be correct, but the public found us guilty. The JCC has canceled the tenders, but with the company that won the tender, the foundation was laid 4 months ago. In 2, the company will deliver it to us. It is not ours that the cable car is not opened by this time, but it is the mistakes of the JCC.
