400 vehicles are involved in Istanbul's traffic
Every day, 400 more vehicles are added to the traffic density, which is the biggest problem of Istanbul. While 13,6 million vehicles travel within the borders of the mega city with a population of 24 million, 1.1 million people cross continents from Asia to Europe.

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, which focuses on rail system investments to produce solutions for Istanbul transportation, announced daily vehicle and human density traffic statistics in the city.

Dursun Balcıoğlu, Head of the Rail Systems Department of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, who made a presentation about the rail system projects at the Istanbul branch of the Technical Staff Association TEKDER, shared the information that the population of 13,6 million causes 24 million vehicles to move per day and 400 vehicles participate in the traffic every day. Balcıoğlu stated that while 2004 million trips were made per day in 11, this number increased to 2012 million in 24, adding that there are approximately 1,1 million intercontinental human passages in the city connecting the two continents.

TO RISE TO 2016 PERCENT IN 31

Balcıoğlu, who is also a member of TEKDER advisory board, talked about the existing rail systems investments in Istanbul and the rail systems projects to be made in 10-year projection. Stating that they focused on rail system investments to produce solutions for Istanbul transportation, Dursun Balcıoğlu stated that the total share of the rail system network in Istanbul's transportation in 2012 will increase from 13 percent to 2016 percent in 31,1.
