Metrobuses are tapped but seventh in passenger preference
In Istanbul, which is among the leading cities of the world in terms of traffic density, metrobus provided a significant convenience in this regard. However, although the buses are almost full at all hours of the day, they are not at the top of the passengers' choice. The first choices of those living in Istanbul are cars, despite the traffic. While the shuttle vehicles come in second place, the ranking continues in the form of a minibus, a private public bus, a city bus, a taxi and a metrobus. It is stated that the use of the metrobus in a certain part of the city (between Söğütlüçeşme and Beylikdüzü) is not effective in the first place.
According to the data of the Istanbul Electric Tram and Tunnel Operations General Directorate (IETT), 3 million 182 thousand 534 people use cars every day in the city. It is followed by shuttle vehicles with 1 million 950 thousand people, minibuses with 1 million 850 thousand people, private public bus with 1 million 475 thousand 274 people, and IETT bus with 1 million 324 thousand 837 people. While 1 million 100 thousand people prefer taxi, Metrobus comes in seventh place with 715 thousand people. Street tram 587 thousand, Kabataş Funicular is preferred by 254 thousand 808, IETT Finucular is preferred by 114 thousand passengers. 289 thousand people benefit from the light subway and 268 thousand 659 people benefit from the subway. Ferries, ferries and boats are not as attractive as cars, minibuses and buses. City Lines carry 146 thousand 798, marine engines 100 thousand 250, IDO 94 thousand 806 passengers.
In Istanbul, more than 57 thousand private operators, 4 local management operators (IETT, Şehir Hatları AŞ, Transportation AŞ, İstanbul Bus AŞ) and 1 central management operator operate in the field of transportation. 87,3 percent of the journeys in Megakent are made by land. The biggest share here is in private operators with 72,23 percent. The share of public operators is 0,7 percent. Rail systems have an important role in urban transportation with 17 percent and the sea with 2,53 percent. The share of private operators at sea is 1,44 percent and public operators are 1,08 percent.
