The section of the railway between Arifiye Adapazarı, where train services were stopped due to the High Speed ​​​​Train project works at the beginning of last year, will be used for urban public transportation. In the prepared project, it was aimed to transport 10 thousand people a day with two light rail systems, on the 10-kilometer railway line.

Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality developed a project to evaluate the 142-year historical Istanbul-Adapazarı railway line between Adapazarı and Arifiye, which was stopped due to high-speed train works. In the project, which is also supported by the Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications, the light rail system will operate on the 10-kilometer railway line between Adapazarı Train Station and the New Intercity New Terminal in Arifiye District.

TCDD Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality supported the project in Turkey Wagon Industry Co. (TÜVASAŞ) Located in producing a variety of high-speed train and tram sets and rail vehicles in Turkey and is currently produced by EUROTEM 2 teams from Haydarpaşa-Gebze commuter trains running between sets to be used on this railway line.

The train trains, which will leave the historical station building of Adapazarı and have 3 wagons and can carry 500 passengers at the same time, will be able to download and drop passengers at the 7 stops in the city center of Adapazarı. Within the scope of the project, a reinforced concrete platform with a granite of 80 meters in length and a width of 2.5 meters on the railway line was created and stations were built.

Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Zeki Toçoğlu said that test drives have been started in the light rail system that will make mutual expeditions. Mayor Toçoğlu stated that it is aimed to move 10 thousand people a day with the light rail system and stated that they are working for the implementation of the project in Yenikent, where the earthquake houses established after the 17 August Earthquake were also built. Toçoğlu said:

In 2013, we will take the first step between the new terminal and the existing train station, and then we will start working to build a light rail system in the Yenikent area.
