The Trilateral Summit meeting of the Presidents of Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Tajikistan was held in Ashgabat, the capital of Turkmenistan. A tripartite summit meeting was held with the participation of President of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai and President of Tajikistan İmamali Rahman hosted by President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguli Berdimuhamedov. At the meeting held at the Ruhiyet Villa in the capital Ashgabat, the leaders of the countries in question agreed on the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Tajikistan railway line project. At the summit, issues for the development of cooperation between countries in various fields were also discussed.

After the trio summit, the leaders in the press release said the meeting was very important and efficient. Berdimuhamedov said the railway project is important in terms of both economic and social aspects. Berdimuhamedov stated that the economic development of Afghanistan will help, said they want to lay the foundation of this project in June.

Reminding that an agreement was signed between Turkmenistan and Afghanistan in 2011, Berdimuhamedov said that the feasibility studies of this project were terminated by experts. Pointing out that the project is difficult, Berdimuhamedov said that the project, which will start in Atamurat, Turkmenistan, will be built by Imamnazar border crossing and from there to the city of Akina in Afghanistan. Turkmen Leader indicated that the part of Turkmenistan is 85 and that Central Asia will join the railway line with Afghanistan.

Speaking at a news conference, the Afghan leader Karzai said the project is extremely important for his country. Karzai stated that they would make efforts to implement this project in a safe manner and that they were ready to take part in all stages of the project.

Tajikistan President Imamali Rahman, on the other hand, stated that since the 1990s, they have been working on projects that will unite Central Asian countries and Afghanistan. Rahman stated that they will mobilize for the railway line project and will give the necessary instructions for the relevant ministries to give more importance to it. – News3
