General Electric (GE) and Tülomsaş announced the goals of the 20-year strategic cooperation they started in locomotive production. According to the information provided, the partnership plans to produce 50-100 units of the new technology product 'Powerhaul' locomotives annually, and to export 70 percent of this to the Middle East, Europe and North Africa. The 10-year export target was set at 1,5 billion dollars. The cooperation also includes producing different types of locomotives.
MAINTENANCE CENTER IS INSTALLED
Within the scope of the cooperation, there is also a regional maintenance center that will provide after-sales service. This center is expected to be operational within 6 months. Stating that the annual locomotive market is 3500-4000 units, GE Transportation President Lorenzo Simonelli stated that Powerhaul will lead the locomotive sector. Explaining that they have started receiving requests for the new locomotive, Simonelli said, “We are at the beginning of the cooperation. We are in pursuit of modernization in North Africa. We act jointly in many tenders ”.
30 THOUSAND PEOPLE WILL WORK
Hayri Avcı, General Manager of Tülomsaş, stated that the railway industry has just begun to form. Emphasizing that the cooperation, which includes technology transfer and the development of the supplier industry, will increase employment in Eskişehir, Avcı explained that it is aimed to employ 2023 thousand people in this sector in 30.
