Population of Eskişehir Increased Thanks to Railway
Thursday of the Turkish Hearth this week sohbetIndeed, Dumlupınar University Faculty of Arts and Sciences Faculty Member Assist. Arif Kolay gave a talk on 'Our Railway Adventure From Past to Present'. In the interview, Kolay gave information about the development of railway and said that the railway had an important role in Eskişehir's history. Kolay, “The first train arrived in Eskişehir in 1894, which is located on the Istanbul-Baghdad railway route. In the 19th century conditions, travel by train was carried out during the day and not when it was dark. When a train departing from Istanbul in the morning arrived in Eskişehir, it did not go any further and the passengers were spending the night in Eskişehir hotels. In order to meet the maintenance and repair needs of the trains that spend the night in Eskişehir, it was decided to build a traction workshop in Eskişehir with the advice of German technicians and this has also formed the core of today's TÜLOMSAŞ facilities. The population of the city increased rapidly by the formation of new immigrant villages in the migration that took place with the contribution of the railway, ”he said.
