Ministry of Transport: We will undertake 3 new metro lines of Izmir

Minister Binali Yıldırım's “İzmir candidacy”, which was brought to the agenda for the 2013 local elections, left its mark on the 2014 meetings of the Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications at the Parliamentary Plan and Budget Committee. Minister Yıldırım made important statements about Konak Tunnel, Flying Road and Rail System Projects in İzmir during the budget negotiations. Stating that the Metropolitan Municipality's demand for increase in exploration for the ongoing metro project will be approved and that they are ready to support the Flying Road Project, Yıldırım said, “For us, service to İzmir and human beings is important. When it comes to service, politics are details. We made a good cooperation with Izmir Metropolitan Municipality in the projects of İZBAN and the cleaning of the Bay. From now on, we are ready to continue this cooperation ”. In summary, he said the following about the projects that the Yıldırım ministry will realize in Izmir:
CALL FOR METRO
Regarding the metro projects that the metropolitan municipalities could not complete, we made a call to the metropolitan municipalities of Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir. We have notified that they can transfer these projects to our Ministry. Ankara Metropolitan Municipality wanted to transfer the 3 lines halfway. Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality wanted to transfer one half line. He requested that 2 new lines be built by our Ministry. İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Aziz Kocaoğlu said, 'I will make the ongoing metro myself'. He asked us to undertake 3 new metro lines. We agreed with him in principle. The application projects of these lines are carried out by the Metropolitan Municipality. Let them finish, we will take over them.
EXECUTION INCREASE REQUEST
It is pointless to discuss in which city subway constructions are realized less costly. You do not know what you will encounter underground. Costs vary according to land conditions and geological studies. Then there are the subways going from the surface and going underground. It is not exactly a metro in Izmir. Some of it goes from the surface, some goes under the ground. However, Istanbul Kartal Metro is a complete subway. In fact, there is not a big difference between the costs of metro projects in 3 big cities. By the way, I would like to remind you that we are talking about the cost of unfinished projects. Izmir Metropolitan Municipality has a demand for an increase in discovery regarding the project that has been going on since 2004 and has changed 3 contractors. We talked about this with the Minister of Internal Affairs and we will approve.
