Almaty Light Rail System in Progress: As the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) strives to develop modern economies, it believes modern urban transport is important for cities and also for all countries. In this direction, a light rail system will be built in Almaty, Kazakhstan with a loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
The EBRD and Almaty city signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the development of a new light rail system in the largest city center of Kazakhstan. The agreement is worth approximately 300 million Euros and covers the 14 km of the line and the necessary equipment and infrastructure improvements.
