With the development of public transportation facilities and the increase in alternatives, the number of passengers has started to increase. Due to the commissioning of the Izmir Suburban System, the opening of the Ege University-Evka-3 stations and new buses opened in the Metro, the number of passengers per day was based on 1,5 million. On Wednesday, October 3 was the busiest day of public transportation in the history of the city and the 1,5 million limit was exceeded for the first time.
During the day, the total number of people using public transportation vehicles of ESHOT, İZULAŞ, İZBAN, Metro and IZDENIZ reached 1 million 505 thousand 546 people in total. According to Kentkart data, 1 million 418 thousand 662 people traveled on the same date last year.
While the biggest burden on public transportation in the city fell to ESHOT and İZULAŞ as usual, it was seen that the number of passengers in İZBAN increased proportionally in comparison to other institutions. Compared to the same day of the previous year, the number of passengers of ESHOT and IZULAS reached 1 million 98 thousand 703 from 1 million 123 bin 143.
The number of people using the Aliağa-Menderes Suburban System, which is one of the most important investments of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, was 3 125 in October. Within a year, the number of passengers of IZBAN increased by 514 thousand 36 and reached 098 thousand 161 people. 612 thousand 23 passengers moved more in the subway and the total number of daily passengers went to 657 bin 180. IZDENIZ increased the number of passengers 92 thousand 2.
ESHOT General Manager Ö. Faruk Alçelik stated that they have continuously followed up the public transportation data in İzmir and that the number of passengers has increased for a long time and 3 has exceeded the 1,5 million limit for the first time in October. Alçelik emphasized that at least 25 passengers should be added together with the police card, gas card and press card which are not seen in the system.
Speaking to private vehicle drivers, ESHOT General Manager Faruk Alçelik, parked vehicles and waiting for taxis due to waiting buses often do not berth, in this case both the landing of the ride and the traffic is hampered, he said.
Expressing that they expect to increase the number of passengers using public transportation if these kinds of problems are overcome, Alçelik said, “We expect them to be more sensitive than the drivers”.
