Efforts are underway to extend the Aliağa-Menderes Suburban System (İZBAN), which was built in partnership with TCDD and Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, to Torbalı district. According to the protocol signed with TCDD, the Metropolitan Municipality, which has completed its projects for five stations and seven highway overpasses on an additional line of approximately 30 kilometers, is launching stage by stage construction tenders. The municipality, which made a tender for Torbalı and Tepeköy stations, out of a total of five on the line last July, also put out a tender for Develi, Tekeli and Pancar stations on 31 August 2012. After the tender is finalized and the site is delivered, the stations will be completed in 16 months. The stations are designed as 210 meters tall, with lower ticket hall, pedestrian underpass, elevator and escalator. Ten companies received files to participate in the tender, six of them submitted bids.
Within the scope of the additional line to be built to İZBAN, which has become an indispensable public transportation line for Izmir residents in a short time, five more stations will be built by the Metropolitan Municipality after Cumaovası Station, in Develi, Tekeli, Pancar, Torbalı and Tepeköy. In addition, the highway overpass in Gölcükler, Menderes district, partial underpass in Cumaovası, the highway overpass in Develi, the highway overpass in Tekeli, the highway overpass in Pancar, the highway overpass in Torbalı Kuşçuburun, the highway overpass in Torbalı and the highway in Tepeköy. overpass will be built. Again in Tepeköy, an overpass with elevators and escalators will be built to ensure safe passage of citizens across the street.
According to the protocol in question, the stations and highway under and overpasses will be made by the Metropolitan Municipality. The existing single-line railway from Cumaovası to Torbalı will be extended to double lines by TCDD. TCDD also undertakes the extension of the protection walls, signaling and electrification systems of the line to Torbalı Tepeköy in accordance with the Aliağa-Cumaovası line. With the activation of the additional line, passengers getting off from Aliağa and the city center will have the opportunity to travel safely, fast, uninterrupted and comfortable to Torbalı. Selçuk, Bayındır, Tire and Ödemiş passengers will also be able to go by rail from Torbalı to İzmir center and from there to Aliağa.
