Izmir metro projects will be taken into 2013 investment program

Minister of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications, Binali Yıldırım, also made evaluations about new metro lines that will significantly solve the transportation problems in Izmir. Yıldırım announced that they will undertake two metro projects planned to be built in the city as a ministry. Yıldırım noted that the metro projects in Ankara, which benefited from the law regarding the transfer of metro and rail system projects to the Ministry of Transport, which Metropolitan municipalities could not complete because they could not provide sufficient finance, said that İzmir would also benefit from this law.
Emphasizing that the construction of metro and rail systems are expensive and expert projects, Yıldırım said, “We have mentioned many times before, 'If local governments cannot do this, we are ready to undertake metro projects as a central administration'. In line with the application received from Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, we have taken over the projects of three lines. Studies continue at a great speed, ”he said.
WE GIVE PRIORITY ''
Yıldırım continued his words as follows: “We are planning to undertake metro projects of metropolitan cities outside of Ankara and Izmir as ministries. There are metro lines that are included in the request sent by İzmir Metropolitan Municipality to us in writing. We give priority to two of these lines. Our friends continue to work. We aim to include these projects in the 2013 investment program within the framework of priorities and opportunities. ” According to the information obtained from the authorities of the Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications, the two metro projects to be undertaken by the ministry are Fahrettin Altay-Narlıdere and Şirinyer-Buca Line lines. There are three other metro projects that İzmir Metropolitan Municipality requested to be done by the ministry.
