TRANSNET Freight Rail (TFR) prepares contracts for new dual-voltage electric locomotives in 599 for use by the general cargo department.
Initially, the first batch of 65 pieces will be delivered in 2015. The second part, consisting of 130 pieces, is planned to be delivered between 2016 and 2018. TFR will hold a disclosure meeting for organizations that want to participate in the tender on August 16.
In addition, TFR plans to order 112 class 19E dual voltage electric locomotives for the Richards Bay Coal Line. It also produces 23 class 15E 50kV AC units for the Sishen-Saldanha iron ore corridor.
