During the First World War on July 12, 1915, Mesiciye-Birüsseba (164 km), Birüsseba-Hafi-retü'l-Avce (72 km), Lid-Birüsseba (96 km) sections of the Hicaz Railway Egypt Branch were built for military purposes.
