Railway surprise for hazelnut workers

Seasonal workers who will come to Sakarya from Eastern and Southeastern provinces to collect hazelnuts will not be able to use the hazelnut train. Due to the closure of the railway due to the Eskişehir-Istanbul High Speed Train Line (YHT) works, the workers will provide their transportation by road this year.
The journey of seasonal agricultural workers, who will come to Sakarya and Düzce, from the Southeastern provinces, will be even more difficult this year. TCDD lifts trains from Diyarbakır Train Station for hazelnut workers every year. The workers were coming to Arifiye Train Station in Sakarya by this train. From here, they were taken to the garden where they would work with tools. However, due to the construction of the Eskişehir-Istanbul YHT Line, the Köseköy-Gebze section this year, the Eskişehir-Istanbul line was closed to train traffic for 2 years. Therefore, workers will not be able to use the railway. Seasonal workers will be able to come to Ankara with the Güney Express, and they will complete the remaining part of the road by road. TCDD officials stated that the necessary wagon additions were made for workers who want to come to Ankara by train, and a letter was written to the governorships for the transportation of the workers.
Hamdi Şenoğlu, the head of the Sakarya Chamber of Agriculture, said in a statement that the wage of hazelnut workers this year would be the lowest 30 lira. Stating that the harvest in hazelnuts will double compared to last year, Şenoğlu said, “Harvest will begin in 15 days. Some of the workers said "we will not come". This year seems to be a problem. The number of workers may decrease by 50 percent. " said.
