Yapı Merkezi won the tender for the Ethiopian Railway Administration's 390 kilometer Awash-Weldie Railway, with a $ 1 billion bid. In addition to the tunnels and stations on the railway network, Yapı Merkezi will also provide signaling systems for vehicles that reach an 1.7 speed per hour. The Ethiopian Awash söz Weldie Railway Project 120 was one of the largest contracts that a Turkish construction firm won alone without any partners abroad. In 1.7, Yapı Merkezi also worked with the Japanese Consortium on the construction of the 2009 billion dollar Dubai Metro.
The contract was signed in Ethiopia's capital Addis Ababa with the participation of Ethiopian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Haile Mariam Desalegn. In February, the Ethiopian Railway Administration (ERC) launched an international tender for the construction of the 390 kilometer railway between Awash and Weldie. After the evaluation of the proposals, Yapı Merkezi was determined to give the most appropriate bid and was invited for technical and contract negotiations. Construction Center won the tender as a result of 4 months of negotiations.
