Within the scope of the revised action plan of the Southeastern Anatolia Project, the railway network will be extended to the Habur Border Gate. Thus, the foreign trade volume with Iraq has become Turkey's second biggest export is aimed at further enhancing the door. The Ministry of Development and the Ministry of Transport will act jointly on this issue.
The new railway route as well as the scope of GAP Action Plan implemented in different cities of Turkey will be given also to the high-speed train project. In this context, the first high-speed line will be built between Diyarbakır and Şanlıurfa. Stating that the study project work of the Ministry of Transportation is continuing, sources of the Ministry of Development said that the high speed train will serve between all GAP provinces in time. In addition to the railway network connection, a new road study that will connect the Southeastern Anatolia Region and the Black Sea Region is focused on. According to the information obtained, a product produced in GAP with a north-south connection will be delivered to the Black Sea port by highway.
Minister of Development Cevdet Yılmaz, who is responsible for GAP, stated that they aim to carry the GAP further in their evaluation regarding the issue and stated that they revised the GAP Action Plan in this context. According to the information given by Minister Yılmaz, the share of GAP region investments in the central budget increased from 7 percent to 14 percent after the works carried out within the scope of the plan. The overall cash realization rate of GAP, which was 2007 percent in 62,2, reached 4 percent in 86 years. Expressing that the area opened to irrigation in the region reached 370 thousand 418 hectares, Yılmaz stated that the construction of the main channels to serve the area of 498 thousand 728 hectares has started and most of them have reached the completion stage at the end of 2012.
