Irmak-Karabük-Zonguldak Railroad Project Founded

The basis of the Irmak-Karabük-Zonguldak railway project was laid with a ceremony held at Karabük Train Station.
The groundbreaking ceremony was carried out by Minister of Maritime Affairs and Communications Binali Yildirim, Minister for EU Affairs Egemen Bagis, former Parliament Speaker and Karabuk MP Mehmet Ali Sahin, Deputy Chairman of the European Commission and Transport Commissioner Siim Kallas, Karabuk Governor Izzettin Kucuk, Kastamonu Governor Erdogan Bektaş, TCDD General Director Suleyman Karaman, a member of many protocols and participated in many citizens.
Speaking at the opening speech, TCDD General Manager Süleyman Karaman said, “We are laying the foundations of the Irmak-Karabük-Zonguldak project, which is the largest transportation project in the EU's non-member countries. I would like to present to you, our Minister of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communication, Binali Yıldırım, our Minister for EU Affairs, Egemen Bağış, our deputies, our former Parliament Speaker Mehmet Ali Şahin, in the presence of this project. said.
Former Speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly and Karabuk Deputy M. Ali Şahin said: “Karabük is a province with a high specific weight. Minister of the European Union Egemen Bağış, in his speech giving detailed information about the project, said: “We also thank the European Union for the fund it has provided to the project through our beloved Siim. The European Union and Turkey jointly financed by the river carries the largest project of its kind in Turkey-Karabük-Zonguldak 227 million euro project, with a budget that will take place over TL 520 million. Of this budget, 194.5 million euros, or approximately 450 million liras, will be financed from EU IPA funds. The project will be completed in 48 months and the Ülkü-Karabük-Zonguldak phase will be completed in 24 months. This project shows that Turkey has now become an important transit corridor between the EU and manufacturing centers in the East. With this project, the route, which has been serving as 'Coal Line' since 1937, will now turn into a line of peace, brotherhood and development. It is also meaningful to hold this ceremony in Karabük, where the soil blends with the sweat and turns into iron and steel. Karabük the industry, the economy, the gorgeous nature really gives us strength to go on the level of contemporary civilization in Turkey, it is a city which is the driving force. Now, with this line, we have strengthened Karabük's position and we have taken a step to pay our gratitude and fidelity to our city.
