New Zealand Auckland Suburban Extension Completed

The Manukau Rail Link, the first addition to the 82-year-old AUCKLAND commuter rail network, was inaugurated by Auckland Mayor Len Brown. The project is expected to be completed for $2 million, including the construction of a station to be built at a 40,7 km junction on the Auckland - Hamilton line.

The line is designed in such a way that the S20 highway will pass near it and will be electrified in the future. The line is scheduled to enter commercial service on April 15, 2012.

The transportation network, which will include a transportation hub and University campus, a ticket office and other facilities, is under construction and is expected to be completed next year.

Manukau Rail Link is Auckland's first new passenger line since the East Line was completed in 1930.
