Tests of ERTMS 2 system in Madrid commuter line

• The line between Atocha and Chamartin, connected through the Sol tunnel, will be the first suburban line in Europe to be equipped with the ERTMS (European Railway Traffic Management System) Level 2 system. Dimetronic and
Thales is responsible for the implementation of the system in this part of the line.

• The Minister of Public Works today even took a trip to see the benefits of applying this technology. Madrid, 26 March 2012

The Ministry of Public Works has started the testing of the ERTMS (European Railway Traffic Management System) Level 2 system installed on the line between Atocha and Chamartin, which is connected to each other via Sol tunnel in the Madrid suburban line network. Widely used in the traffic management of high-speed rail lines, this Level 2 technology has been applied for the first time in Europe to the high density line in the suburbs of Madrid.

Minister of Public Works Ana Pastor, Head of Community Esperanza Aguirre and Madrid Mayor Ana Botella participated in the first tests to establish this advanced system that supports the highest level of line capacity and enables driving. The ERTMS Level 2 system is installed at two stations between Atocha and Chamartin, with the Atocha-Sol-Chamartin tunnel and the highest suburban traffic volume in Spain. Since the last 1 March, the ERTMS Level 1 system has been used with the C4 line between Parla and Colmenar Viejo and the branch line of this line, Alcobendas and
San Sebastian de los Reyes is even on service. This line is a local in Europe.
ERTMS in the network is the line where the 1 system is applied first.

Dimetronic and Thales install and commission the system roadway equipment, automatic train protection system and the ETCS (European Train Control System) Level 1 system after Level 2 is commissioned. Level 2, which enables driving at the same level as the previous level, can also increase the capacity to be managed and therefore the number of trains, in addition to the benefits of Level 1.

The ERTMS application on the line section of 190 kilometers in total was directly made by the Ministry of Public Works through the General Directorate of Railways. Equipping the two station lines on the line between Atocha and Chamartin, which has the highest suburban traffic volume in Spain, with this system is an important part of the study.
part of it.

The technological possibilities and experiences of Dimetronic and Thales in the installation, testing and commissioning of ERTMS systems allow for the preparation of an installation plan at any time without affecting the operation of the line.
It provides.

ERTMS Level 2 receives Movement Permits from the Chamartin Control Center and this information is transmitted to the trains on the line in the form of lengths, speeds, switches on the line and signal notification. These communications are carried out over GSM-R (railway mobile communication system).

Dimetronic and Thales, with extensive national and international experience in railway signaling solutions for high-speed rail lines such as mainline or metro, collaborated in the implementation of the ERTMS system in the high-speed network in Spain. These companies, with more than 1.200 miles of lines currently in service,
are the most experienced companies in their implementation.

About Dimetronic

Dimetronic is the leading company in security and railway signaling systems in the Iberian Peninsula market and has over 50 years of experience in applying advanced technologies in integrated safety and control of railway traffic.

Its main activity is to provide "turnkey" systems for Railway Signaling and Automatic Train Control on both metropolitan and suburban railways and long distance and high speed train lines, as well as to carry out maintenance and training activities related to them.

In this context, Dimetronic, in addition to its staff responsible for the realization of its commitments, has R&D and excellence centers responsible for the technological development of the most advanced railway systems in both metropolitan railway systems (CBTC) and high-speed and long-distance lines (ETCS). Dimetronic has decided to allocate more than 200% of its sales volume to R&D activities each year, adding more than 6 engineers to its workforce for this activity.
