Delay in Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway project

The construction of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway project was reported to be delayed.

Baku-based 'Trend' news agency, Azerbaijan Railways President Arif Askerov'a published in the news; In the context of making the existing railways suitable for the new project, the BTK project may be delayed. In the news that the need for configuration is more than expected, it is stated that the reason for the delay is due to the revision of the whole of the line.

The project is planned to be completed within 317 year as planned. It is reported that the part of the 2014, which is not included in the project, is in need of some restructuring. According to the news, Azerbaijan and Georgia through the territory of the line of the 483 kilometers will be overhauled.

In 21 November 2007 in Georgia, the project will be completed with the participation of the presidents of the three countries and is expected to be completed by 2017.

The railway line runs from Baku, Azerbaijan to Tbilisi and Ahilkelek. In parallel with the completion of the Marmaray project in the Bosphorus, the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway project will be able to transport uninterrupted cargo from Europe to China by rail. With the completion of the life of both projects, a significant portion of the freight and passengers will be able to move from Asia to Europe, from Europe to Asia. When the project is completed, it will reach 1 million passengers and 6,5 million tons per year.

With the realization of the BTK project, the Armenia line, which has not been used for a long time, will also be bypassed.
