MTR Corporation has reached an agreement with China Southern Locomotive for Yuan 1.36bn (US$215.7m) on the supply of nine high-speed trains for the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link (ERL).
The octa-car sets will be on the CRH380A model, which reaches 380 km/h. The trains will be delivered when the 26 km Hong Kong ERL line will open, and will be used for high-speed shuttle services between Shenzhen and Guangzhou.
It is estimated that by the time 100.000 will be transported, 2031 will reach a daily 160.000 passenger capacity.
