GERMAN infrastructure manager DB has announced that it will begin work on the complete refurbishment of the electrification project of the 57.5km Horka – Knappenrode – Zentendorf (Polish border) line in East Germany this year.

The connection, which was built as a single line in 1946, will be restored as a double line and the 52 km part of the route will be signaled again.

Construction of the double line will start next year, and all works, including noise reduction, are expected to be completed by the end of 2016. In addition, electrification of 12.5km of the Wegliniec line border on the Polish side will also be carried out.
