European Train Control System (ETCS) Section 1 Project will be used in the RENFE commuter route in Madrid C4

The Spanish Ministry of Development announced on 1 March that ETCS Level 1 will be used for Madrid RENFE suburban route C4. According to the ministry, this was the first implementation of ETCS in a suburban network in Europe.

The project was undertaken by the ministry to cover an area of ​​190 km, including between Alcobendas-San Sebastian de los Reyes and at a cost of over € 30m.

112 has spent a million euros on the RENFE 23 to install onboard hardware on Civia EMUs.
