Izmir Metropolitan Municipality and TCDD, which cooperated to bring the 80-kilometer rail system to Izmir on the Aliağa - Menderes line, sat at the cooperation table for the second time for the Izmir Bay.
Aiming to open a circulation channel in the north of the Gulf and to prevent the shallowness by constantly clearing the creek mouths, the Metropolitan Municipality and the State Railways aiming to increase the capacity by expanding the port have reached an important point in their studies for months. Within the scope of İzmir Bay and İzmir Port Rehabilitation Project, TCDD has signed a contract with the company that will provide consultancy services to prepare the EIA report and to take the decisions of the EIA.
IZSU, TCDD and DLH officials, who came together for this new cooperation that started in the Gulf, exchanged views on the studies and methods to be carried out. Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Aziz Kocaoğlu also attended the meeting at İZSU General Directorate.
Mayor Kocaoğlu stated that they have been working with Dokuz Eylül University Institute of Marine Sciences and Technology for the last four years to form the scientific basis of this project, and said that the port is losing blood every day due to the inability of heavy tonnage ships, and the İzmir economy will strengthen with the increase in depth. TCDD officials also gave information about the work to be done at the port. Company officials who will provide consultancy services within the scope of the tender opened by TCDD also attended the meeting.
