Rail System in Samsun to Extend 48 Kilometers

Samsun Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Yusuf Ziya Yılmaz said that the rail system will serve the 48-kilometer line from the airport to Taflan.

Stating that there are demands for the extension of the rail system line and that they are evaluating these demands, Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Yusuf Ziya Yılmaz said, “The rail system started at the beginning of 2011 and reached a daily passenger carrying capacity of around 1 thousand passengers in a period of 50 year. There are demands to extend the service. Apart from the existing line of 16.5 kilometers, we have worked on the new route from the east to the airport and to Taflan in the west and we will bring the environmental plan to our assembly. In the first stage, we aim to project the part from the train station to the Municipal Houses in 2012 and to realize the construction in 2013 ”.

Stating that the rail system will synchronize the transportation in the city, President Yılmaz said, “It will reach a length of 48 kilometers from the airport to Taflan in the coming years, but it requires a process, it requires resource planning. It's a job that will happen over time. The rail system will synchronize transportation in our city, it will include minibuses and bus services into a public transportation system. This is the common problem of big cities today. Transportation is consolidated, however, in the solution of problems such as air pollution and traffic density in cities, a solution is made such as the consolidation of transportation, this is the right thing, ”he said.
