The last stage of the Izmir Suburban System Development Project, which has been continuing for nearly 10 years and which will significantly ease the passenger traffic on the North-South axis of the city and which will contribute greatly to the development of the city, has reached its final stage. The southern part of the line has been completed, and in the northern part the signaling works with the catenary system which will transfer the traction power of the trains are still going on.
Trial runs have been started on the southern part of the line (Cumaovası - Alsancak line) as of 30 August 2010. There are a total of 10 stations on the route where trial trips are made, namely Cumaovası, Airport, Sarnıç, Gaziemir, Esbaş, İnkılap, Running, Şirinyer, Kemer and Alsancak.
