Samsun Metropolitan Municipality Light Rail System started service with a ceremony held on 10.10.2010 at 10.00.
Samsun Light Rail System Project, which cost 121 million Euros, was put into service 8 months before its normal time. A special date was chosen for the rail system and a ceremony was held at the Station Station on 10.10.2010 at 10.00. Samsun Governor Hüseyin Aksoy, Metropolitan Mayor Yusuf Ziya Yılmaz, Chief Public Prosecutor Canip Yetişir, Police Chief Hulusi Çelik, AK Party Provincial Head Adem Güney, department managers, representatives of non-governmental organizations and citizens attended the ceremony.

Following the slaughter, the members of the protocol and the citizens moved on the train. The protocol and citizens who took the train named Ladik went to the entrance of Ondokuz Mayıs University which is the last stop in the west and returned to the city.

Samsun Governor Hüseyin Aksoy wished the Light Rail System to be beneficial for Samsun.
AK Party Provincial Chairman Adem Güney stated that Prime Minister Recep Tayip Erdogan has a special interest in Samsun, saying that investments in Samsun will continue and the city will develop further.

Stating that this project carries Samsun to the future in the category of big cities, Samsun Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Yusuf Ziya Yılmaz said, “I am extremely happy to bring the rail system in transportation to our city. This was the project that has been spoken in our city for 7-8 years. Our Prime Minister and our parliamentarians have very valuable contributions in bringing them to our city. We will hold the real opening with the participation of our Prime Minister in the coming days. Good luck to our city. The Rail System was put into service on the 16-kilometer-long line between OMU and the city center. On the route, 16 vehicles will serve with a capacity of 90 thousand passengers. There are 21 stations on the route. The system, which was scheduled to be completed in June 2011, was put into service 8 months early. It will provide free service to Samsun residents for 3 days. We will do paid transportation as of Wednesday. The system has a daily capacity of 90 thousand passengers. I hope we will reach this passenger capacity and we will need to buy additional trains. If the system is self-feeding, we plan to extend it from the Station Junction to the Municipal Houses. We are planning to reach Tekkeköy as well. In a third stage, we aim to reach the University. In the next step, we aim to reach the bus station. We will do it gradually. We are planning to reach the places where our city should be within 10 years. We aim to eliminate traffic pollution with the modern transportation system " dedicate.

Citizens traveling with the Rail System expressed their satisfaction by thanking Metropolitan Mayor Yusuf Ziya YILMAZ for bringing an important project to the city.

It was learned that the official opening of the rail system will be made by Prime Minister Recep Tayyip ERDOĞAN this month.
