The İZBAN Department of the EGERAY Project was launched on March 6, 2011 at 15.30 at a ceremony held at the historical Alsancak Station. İZBAN, connecting Aliağa and Menderes, was put into service by Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Republican People's Party Chairman Mr. Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu.

İzmir, the third largest city of our country, has signed a giant project with the cooperation of Ministry of Transport, TCDD and İzmir Metropolitan Municipality in order to produce modern solutions for urban mass transportation.

Within the framework of the project TCDD; by subtracting the subway line on the double line, establishing electrification, signaling and telecommunication facilities on the dual-line 79 km Aliağa-Menemen-Basmane and Alsancak-Cumaovası line; substructure deficiencies; took the line under the line; Egekent rebuilt 2 and Ulukent stations at the subway standard.

TCDD, nearly 5 closed this segment to passenger and freight transportation throughout the year.

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality also built two tunnels, 5.2 stations, 25 station reconstruction, 25 highway and overpass and maintenance and repair centers.

To be responsible for the operation of the suburban system, TCDD and İzmir Metropolitan Municipality established İZBAN A.Ş.

For the project, 99 series vehicle consisting of 33 wagons was purchased from abroad.

Turkey, which is linked to the airport's longest commuter system İZBAN; Starting from Aliağa from the north, Menemen, Çiğli, Karşıyaka, Alsancak, Şirinyer, Gaziemir, Adnan Menderes Airport and the total 31 station to Cumaovası 550 station will serve a thousand passengers a day.

Metro system and Alsancak-Aliağa 60 minutes, Alsancak-Cumaovası 26 minutes, including the total 86 minutes.

As it is known, the basis of the project is at 3 Mart 2006 Karşıyakawas thrown.

The expansion of the project to other cultural and tourism centers was also on the agenda.

11.10.2004 has signed a Memorandum of Understanding to enable the co-operation project.
