Ankaray Light Rail Transport System has been implemented as a contemporary solution to the transportation problem of the capital Ankara, which is growing in terms of geographical and population.

The contract for the project, which is the first of such public transportation systems in Ankara, was signed in 1991 between the partnership of Yüksel İnşaat and the Employer Ankara Metropolitan Municipality EGO General Directorate. Yüksel and Bayındır companies have undertaken the construction works of the 8,527 m long double track rail system built between Dikimevi and Söğütözü, while the consortium partners Siemens, Breda, AEG and Simko have completed the electromechanical works of Yüksel in this project. Within the scope of the project, 1,755 m bored tunnel; 4,917 stations with a length of 217 m, 412 m of on-off tunnel and 1,226 m of level, 11 m of which are under the ground. This public transportation system reaches 11 passengers per day by serving 18 hours with 350,000 trains.
