The largest collection of ancient ships in the world will be opened: Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality is taking the first steps to exhibit nearly a thousand works from the Port of Theodosius, discovered by Marmaray excavations.
Steps are taken for the museum, which will be unearthed by the Marmaray excavations, to exhibit 36 ​​sunken ships and nearly 45 thousand artifacts from Theodosius Port, the oldest port of the early Byzantine period. The graves and footprints of the first Istanbulites who lived 8 years ago will be gathered in the largest sunken museum in the world.
The Arkeopark museum was planned at the time of the excavations. For the project, which has been waiting for many years, it is going to the field at the end of this month. According to the news in the morning, an application project will be prepared for the first building of the museum to be built by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. Historical artifacts waiting at Istanbul Archeology Museum will be taken to Yenikapı when the museum is completed. In the museum to be built within the historical excavation area, 36 ships and 5 objects will be exhibited. A special 20 meter platform area will be created for the ships to be exhibited. There will be five archaeological sites outside the ship's exhibition area. The ships to be exhibited in the museum are the world's largest collection of ancient ships.
